Research on Heart Attacks and Heart Pump to Take Place at Allegheny General Hospital. Doctors at Allegheny General Hospital plan to study a small heart pump in patients with heart attacks. This randomized study will help us learn if using the pump helps patients recover better after their heart attack. The RECOVER IV Study will be conducted during emergency medical situations. Most patients will be too sick to make healthcare decisions or give their consent to participate in the study. Life-supporting treatments must be given quickly to be effective. The RECOVER IV Study will follow a special set of research rules that allow for an exception from informed consent to help advance emergency medicine care.
